Easy to install.I decided to make an attempt to restore my “old school” Raleigh M60 mountain bike and replacing the shifter cables and shifter cable housing among other things was required.I am not a bike tech but I like to learn in the fly and was successful, thanks to the kit. There are no instructions but honestly, they weren’t needed.The amount of shifter cable housing that came with the kit was more than adequate for my bike and I imagine for many bikes.Since the number of housing end caps varies on bikes, hold onto the ones you have just in case you need them.Also, it really helps to have the right tools. I already had a Park cable cutter but I had to use my dremel to cut the housing because none of my non-bike specific cutters worked without damaging the housing core.I crafted a “jig” (see image) with a thin piece of wood that had a hole to accommodate the housing. I marked the housing where I needed to cut it, inserted it through the hole and cut it with the dremel cutting wheel — flush to the wood and perpendicular to the cable housing. Voila! Done deal! I would recommend it.Saved me a bunch of money replacing the cables myself. Watched a few YouTube videos' on how to tune the shifters after installation. Ordering another set to replace the cables on my wife's bicycle.The kit provides all the housing and cable you need to replace your brake cables on a normal bicycle (it may not have enough for tandems and recumbents).I wouldn't tackle the job without cable cutters, otherwise the ends of the cables are certain to fray. I can't think of any suitable substitutes perople are likely to have on hand.When cutting the housing, get the cutting blade between the coils to avoid crushing it, then finish it with a file or grinder to clean up ragged ends that might hinder movement of the cable, or cause undue wear.My only complaint is that the ferrules for the housing ends and the cable tips are inherently easy to loose, and it would have been nice if Shimano included an extra one of each.Used this to repair the broken rear derailleur cable on a Raleigh Mohave 4.0 downhill mtn bike with shimano shifters. The outer sheath is just a little bit smaller than the original equipment but it didn't seem to matter. Works great! And now my bike shifts smoothly again. Buy this kit if you need all the little caps for the cable sheath.Not much to say about them but they work like they're supposed to.Comes with plenty of length and extra end caps.Worked as described.I'm not much of a shifter cable aficionado, but these work great and provide smooth shifting, especially since my old ones were totally thrashed and didn't even work anymore. After ordering I realized these said "MTB" and I figured out they are meant for mountain bike application, so I was worried these would be bad lengths for my road bike. Turns out it was just fine and installation was a breeze, the lengths just seemed to be quite long for what I needed. So in case you're wondering, yes they will probably fit your road bike!Purchased to replace crusty front and rear derailleur operating cables as part of work to freshen up an old 90's 21 gear mountain bike - this did the job for me.Two cable inners plus two cable ends. Looks like it has enough cable outer (210cm) and associated ferroules (8 cable casing ends ) to do pretty much any standard bike. The cable casing (4mm - looked a bit smaller than the original but but fitted fine) is prelubed on the inside with low friction coatings, so not supposed require additional greasing. The cable inner is stainless steel so the exposed lengths shouldn't rust (unlike my admittedly very old originals).Cable inners are about 180cm and 210cm.make sure your wire cutters are decent quality and up to the job, you'll also need a cable crimper (often come as part of a wire cutter) spanners/hex/torx of the right sizes for your bike fittings.There are no instructions, but this job should be easy enough to do, there are plenty of good videos online for guidance, but essentially, you'll need to remove the existing casings and use as a template for cutting the replacement lengths from the new casing.Less than 20 mins work if you know what you're doing, have a good work area and the right tools. For crusty fittings, it's worth a few sprays of WD40 or similar the night before to avoid painful removal struggles.All good. I needed to raise the handlebars using a fork expender so had to increase the length of the gear cables on my mountain bike. It took a couple of hours to completely change the outer housing and inner cables for front and back gears and set everything up again. The gear shifting is like new again and totally smooth and accurate. This kit contains everything you need for the job except tools - I used good quality wire cutters, allen keys, screw drivers, pliers and an adjustable wrench and don't forget some tight fitting tube for the actual cable if the cables run inside the frame, as it makes swapping everything over a breeze - see YouTube for the technique.I first bought generic cables from the High Street but they are not long enough for the routing on my e bike. These are nice and long. This Shimano set is very high quality with lots of additional parts like the end crimps. Nice smooth action cables - you can’t beat Shimano for quality. Don’t forget to buy the proper cable cutters for a nice, clean and professional cut.Bought some cheaper cables for gear change- that snapped first use. This Shimano cable much better quality and working well. Worth the extra cost and will only buy Shimano in the future.Wifey was complaining about not so good shifters on her bike and I decided to give these cables a try.What a DIFFERENCE! Totally worth it. Given the results, I'll probably change the cables on my bike as well.P.S. It's good to have the tools to cut this but with patience, very doable without professional tools.
